The controversially styled BMW 7 Series' mid-life facelift has been expected for a while and new reports of the prototype testing in Germany have surfaced. Along with its toned down looks, the Seven will be equipped with a horde of new engines.

When the revised car makes its first appearance in March at the Geneva Motor Show, it will be fitted with new headlamps and grille. As seen on the pictures of the disguised prototype taken by CARtoday.com reader Nic Retief in March this year, the car will also have a redesigned airdam at the front.

At the rear, the much-loathed swollen end is now smoother, incorporating a new bumper. Understated interior adjustments will include a simplified version of the iDrive system.

The range will receive a revised choice of engines. According to , the entry-level model will have a new 3,0-litre six-cylinder petrol delivering close to 190 kW. Two new diesel engines will be offered: A 200 kW twin-turbo 3,0-litre and a 224 kW 4,0-litre V8 diesel. The 3,0-litre diesel, besides doing duty in the 735d, will also be fitted into the 3- and 5 Series.

Apparently, there are also plans to eventually release two new V8 petrol engines for the 7 Series. The 4,0-litre V8 will reportedly produce up to 235 kW, while the 4,8-litre will produce a stomping 316 kW.
