Alfa Romeo unveiled its breathtaking GT at Auto Africa this week. It also announced the adoption of the TI sports kits across the range.

The GT sports coupé, derived from Alfa’s 156 and designed by the Bertone Style Centre, is svelte and athletic with fluid, almost feminine lines.

The car has inherited its specially configured suspension layout from the 156, with a double-wishbone up front and transverse McPherson rods at the rear. The awesome GT will be available in two derivatives and orders for the car can be placed from the end of October.

The 110 kW 1,9 Multi-Jet turbodiesel engine is offered exclusively in the Alfa GT. Those seeking more power have the option of choosing the flagship model with the 24-valve, 3,2-litre V6 unit. Producing 176 kW, it reaches a top speed of 243 km/h and accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 6,7 seconds.

The turbodiesel sells for R259 000 , the V6 costs R329 000. All prices are VAT inclusive.

Continuing with the sports theme, the Alfa’s 147, 156 and 166 are now available in TI guise in South Africa.

The TI – or Turismo Internazionale – badge was initially reserved only for the most sporting production models in a range. This time round, TI signifies the sports kit found on the Alfa Romeo range, with the addition of wider tyres, slloy wheels and side skirts.

Dependent on the model, rear spoilers, uprated brakes, lowered suspension and GTA-style lights hint at the sportier styling from the outside. Leather seats and steering mounted radio controls are some of the changes visible in the cabin, and again depends on the model.

Alfa’s three-door 2,0-litre 147 fitted with the TI pack sells for R220 500, while the 2,5-litre V6 156 with the sports kit sells for R281 000.
