When the next edition of Audi’s racy TT arrives towards the end of 2006, it will feature a range of new engines, including a 208 kW petrol unit and its first diesel engine.

Codenamed the AU353, the new TT will be unveiled at the next year’s Frankfurt Motor Show and it is rumoured that the car will become available in right-hand drive markets by mid 2006.

The diesel will be sourced from parent company VW’s 103 kW 2,0-litre TDI unit used in the Golf 5, tuned to push out just under 120 kW. This model is likely to be added to the lineup at any time between 2007 and 2008.

The 209 kW twin-turbo version is a development of the 149 kW 2,0-litre engine lined up for the new Golf GTI and will be added to the range in 2007. At launch, the TT should come with a 149 kW turbo-charged 2,0-litre and a 3,2-litre V6 with 190 kW on tap. This is alongside the 112 kW naturally aspirated two-litre base model.

The AU353’s styling is not expected to be a radical departure from the current range, but will display Audi’s overpowering new grille. Other changes include a slightly longer wheelbase and uprated brakes and will be based on the Q3 platform used currently used by Volkswagen’s Golf 5 and Audi A3.
