FAW is not the most well-known Chinese manufacturer in the local context with just two models on offer, the Sirius S80 MPV (which you can read about here) and the V2 hatchback.
The latter's local line-up has been increased with the addition of a limited edition, high-spec model, dubbed the V2 #Like which has been derived by combining two of the most popular social media platforms: Twitter's "hashtag #" and Facebook’s "Like" function.
V2 #Like offers 15 inch alloy wheels, Bluetooth, i GO8 satellite navigation with touchscreen functionality, as well as a DVD/MP3/CD player for the audio system which also has upgraded 5-inch Sony speakers, all for R109 995. It it also carries a 3-year/100 000 km warranty and 3-year/ 45 000 km service plan together with one-year roadside assistance at no added cost.
The aforementioned list of features are over and above the standard items found in V2 models, which include air conditioning, electric windows on all four doors, electrically-adjustable side mirrors, remote control central locking, remote fuel flap opener, four-way adjustable driver’s seat, dual glovebox compartments, storage space and cup holder in door panels and an interior reading light.
As far as safety systems go the V2 has driver and passenger air bags, anti-lock brakes with electronic brake force distribution, side impact bars, headlamp levelling adjustment, LED rear brake lights with a third high level mounted brake light on the spoiler, front and rear fog lamps.
All V2 models are powered by a 1,3-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine that delivers 67 kW and 120 N.m of torque to the front wheels via a five-speed gearbox. FAW claims combined cycle fuel economy of 6,5 L/100 km.
“The introduction of this limited edition V2 hatchback follows extensive market research with dealers and new car buyers which highlighted the two essential areas which are critical to sales success in South Africa these days. The limited edition V2 #Like continues as an amazing value-for-money offering because it has an exceptional list of standard equipment and yet sells at the extremely competitive price ” explain general manager of FAW Auto cars and light commercials in SA, Pedro Pereira.
