The price of fuel will drop across the board on Wednesday December 1, but not as much as initially anticipated.

The Department of Mineral and Energy Affairs announced on Tuesday that from Wednesday, motorists will pay 19 cents less per litre of petrol at the pumps.

The price of diesel with a 0,3 per cent sulphur content will decrease by 21 cents per litre, while that of diesel with a 0,05 per cent sulphur content will drop by 23 cents per litre.

Last week, the department announced that fuel prices would be cut by as much as 27 cents per litre, with the price of petrol expected to drop by as much as 23 cents per litre.

Although the official drop in fuel prices falls short of initial estimates, the announcement is nonetheless a welcome one. The department has credited the adjustment to a drop in international fuel prices during the review period and the rand’s recent strong performances against the dollar.
