CAR’s first taste of a modern Saab came in time for the December 1995 issue (our very first experience of any Saab was away back in 1959, the 93 B). After a new partnership with General Motors, the 900 nameplate was revived after first being used in 1978.

Sharing its underpinning with the Opel Vectra, the new 900 was still blessed with a very distinctive design. Under the bonnet lay a 2,0 turbocharged, four-cylinder motor that produced 136 kW and 263 N.m, which sent drive to the front wheels via an automated “Sensonic” five-speed gearbox.
