GMSA recently donated nine Isuzu KBs and one Corsa Utility to five educational institutions based in Port Elizabeth.

The vehicles will be used for technical training purposes, providing learners with the means to gains skills in the stripping of engines, transmissions, and various other mechanical components. The fleet donation is valued in excess of R1 million.

Evan Dold, GMSA director of procurement and engineering, said the primary objective behind the donation was the development of automotive skills in the area.

“The Isuzus were used mainly for component localisation and development where a wide range of testing was undertaken,” he explained. “By putting these vehicles through rigorous tests, such as rough road durabilities and brake and economy tests, our knowledge base of the Isuzus’ performance under arduous local conditions has grown tremendously.

“Through this donation, the company is able to assist local institutions to significantly improve their resources and expertise. At the same time, we are pleased that we are able to share our knowledge of vehicle operations with these institutions.”

Joy Grobler, chief executive of Port Elizabeth College, one of the beneficiaries, said that aside from the technical training benefits for institutions, the vehicle support programme ensured that there was a strategic partnership in place between industry and the local community.

The donations were made to Newton Technical High School, Otto Du Plessis High School, Port Elizabeth College, Port Elizabeth Technikon and Westview High School.

Grobler said: “The company’s fleet donation will provide our learners with access to what is happening at the very forefront of industry. The value of this is inestimable. GMSA’s ongoing vehicle support programmes further ensure that there are diverse benefits for local organisations.”
