Renault, which has built a solid reputation around the world for its range of funky small cars, has boosted its local Clio range with the release of the limited edition Va Va Voom 2 and revised Expression models.

Since its release, the dynamic Clio has enjoyed a loyal following among the horde of small-car drivers in South Africa. The new Va Va Voom is available in 1,2- and 1,4-litre versions.

At R99 995, the 1,2-litre comes with air-conditioning, a combination tuner/CD/MP3 player, and an engine that produces 55kW of power and 105 N.m of torque. The 1,4-litre produces 70 kW and 127 N.m and, like the smaller-engined version, comes with air-conditioning and a top-notch sound system with MP3 player.

Both models come with identical equipment – two airbags, power steering, electric front windows and remote central locking.

Further adjustments to the Clio range include the replacement of the 1,2 Authentique with the Expression specification level, while changes have been made to the 1,4- and 1,5-litre Expressions.

The 1,2 Expression's air bag count drops from four to two, and it receives wheel covers rather than alloy wheels for R109 995.

The Expression models are now distinguished by their stylish alloy wheels, and the prices on both models have been considerably reduced. Both now come with two airbags instead of four, but power exterior mirrors have been removed from the specification list.

The manual 1,4-litre now costs R122 500, the automatic R132 500 and the 1,5-litre turbodiesel costs R133 500. No changes have been made to the 1,6-litre Dynamique and Clio Sport models.

Renault SA is currently preparing for the introduction of the high-bodied Modus range, which will include 1,2, 1,4, and 1,6 petrol version and a 1,5 turbodiesel. Modus models will be priced at about six per cent above their Clio equivalents. If the local homologation process goes as planned, the range should arrive by May.
