Alan Coward will succeed Tony Langley as managing director of Budget Rent a Car next year, McCarthy Motor Holdings (MMH) chairman Brand Pretorius said on Wednesday.

Coward will not only replace the soon-to-retire Langley on February 7, but also serve on McCarthy Motor Holding's executive committee and the McCarthy Limited board.

Durbanite Alan Coward qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1979. In 1986 he joined Panasonic South Africa and was promoted to group managing director in 1991. He was appointed IBM (SA)’s general manager of global services in 2001.

"Tony Langley has made a valuable contribution to the company, and through his focussed leadership, managed to make meaningful progress in virtually all of Budget's key performance areas," said Pretorius.

"Alan is well qualified to lead Budget (a wholly-owned subsidiary of MMH) into its next phase of growth," he added.
