Fans of the Audi’s previous A4 halo model – the RS4 – will be disappointed to hear that the Ingolstadt-based brand has no intentions to have in-house tuning division quattro GmbH further develop the current B8 A4 (available in S4 guise) with the RS (RennSport) treatment.

While Audi is treading new waters with the recent introduction of the A1 boutique hatch in markets abroad (its arrival in South Africa is imminent), the B-segment previously uncharted by the luxury marquee, it also believes that the current RS5 Coupé is adequate enough to take the fight to the likes of the BMW M3, Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG and Lexus IS-F – so there’s no need for a A4 thunder saloon in the near future...

Of course, Audi simply has to have a super-fast luxo executive saloon in its model line-up and therefore quattro GmbH will focus on the A6 – with the likelihood that the next RS6 will be powered by a twin-turbocharged V8 unit to replace the twin-turbocharged V10 in current use, though the smaller engine will probably produce even more power than before, rumour has it that the figure is around 441 kW.
