Ferrari has developed a technical programme based on its FXX prototype that, claimed to be the most advanced GT ever to emerge from Maranello, will instantly transform these owners into test drivers.

The FXX is powered by a 6,2-litre V12 engine capable of producing close to 600 kW (597 to be more exact) of screeching power at 5 800 r/min and an F1-style gearbox capable if gearshifts of under 100 milliseconds - almost as fast as the single-seater race cars.

Aerodynamically, the car produces 40 per cent more downforce than any of the Scuderia's earlier models and this fast car comes with a nifty mobile spoiler that is adjusted to any track situation.

The company's close working relationship with Bridgestone has resulted in a range of bespoke 19-inch slick tyres, while Brembo has developed a special brake cooling and pad system for the car using its large composite ceramic brake discs.

With its potent blend of unbridled power, the FXX has not been homologated and will be used exclusively on the track as part of a Ferrari research and development programme specifically using client test drivers.

The Scuderia's team of technicians and specialists will monitor every client who purchases one of the approximately 20 models available. All the feedback gained will be compared with similar information provided by the Michael Schumacher, Rubens Barrichello and the company's in-house test drivers.

Prospective client test drivers will be subjected to an exhaustive selection process incorporating track events and driving courses at the team's Fiorano test circuit, and an in-house committee is currently evaluating the applications. The first FXXs will be delivered by the end of this year at the cost of about 1,5 million euros (or R12,4 million), excluding costs.
