German car specialists, JE Design, are not known for being conservative. Their Q7 Wide Body kit gives the otherwise imposing Audi SUV a dose of road racer presence and a 39 kW boost under the bonnet.

It’s impossible not to notice Audi’s Q7 SUV – wouldn’t you agree? But the folks at Germany-based JE Design think the Q7 can be bolder. If you ask them, they might suggest that the Q7’s styling is too conservative, its wheels too small and that the 3,0-litre V6 TDI could do with a bit more poke.

Therefore JE Design have made available a Wide Body kit that gives the Q7 a wider, more sporty stance courtesy of muscular wheel arches and an impressive front spoiler that helps to reduce lift and looks capable of hoovering in any hapless wildlife that meanders into the path of this behemoth. Lens caps for the already aggressive looking headlamps add to the whole “SUV racer” look of the car.

Things start getting very interesting towards the back of the car where the kit features a new tailgate skirt with a pair of angular stainless steel exhausts emerging from diamond-shaped openings.

An unlikely-looking spoiler and some C-pillar trim should be the main attractions at the rear, but eyes are quickly drawn to the prominent air inlets in front of the rear wheels. JE Design wanted to ensure its kit had a top-to-bottom feel, offering the car a complete muscular look without appearing too “plump” or forcing owners to shell out for single parts piece by piece.

A number of tweaks to the engine management system gives the 3,0-litre V6 TDI a boost in power from 171 kW to 210 kW. Torque is also up from 500 N.m to 550 N.m. The modification makes for a claimed 0-100 km/h time of 8,4 seconds (originally 9,1 seconds) while the top speed goes from 210 km/h to 219 km/h.

A suitably eye-catching set of 22-inch JE Design “361” rims crowd out the wheel arches and the overall low-slung look of the Wide Body Q7 is augmented further by the inclusion of an electronically lowered suspension system offered to cars with air suspension.

It looks formidable, and has the power and poise to add some serious performance spice to the realm of SUV’s; a Q-car this Q7 is not.
