Before the end of the year, we'll see full-scale production of two new vehicles from Saab by new owners National Electric Vehicle Sweden (NEVS). Two 9-3 saloons have been built first to work out any issues in the production line and test newer components before production starts. This is all happening at Saab's traditional home in Trollhättan.

Acting president for NEVS, Mattias Bergman, said, "I am pleased that today we have assembled our first car to verify all the production processes here in Trollhättan. Prior to our decision to start production of Saab cars, we need to finalise a few remaining dialogues to build partnerships with suppliers. We now know that the plant is ready for production."

According to AutoBlog, NEVS will first bring out gas-powered, turbocharged 9-3s and then move on to a facelifted, electrified variant later next year.

Sales will be focused on Europe and China at this stage, with a target of 120 000 units a year by 2016.
