The top three finalists in each of the six categories of the 2019 World Car Awards have been announced at the Geneva International Motor Show.

A jury comprising 86 international automotive journalists selected the top three in each category – whittling down the original list of finalists – by secret ballot based on “their evaluation with each candidate as part of their professional work”.

The seven finalists that fell away in the main World Car of the Year category were the BMW 3 Series, Ford Focus, Genesis G70, Hyundai Nexo, Mercedes-Benz A-Class, Suzuki Jimny and Volvo XC40, leaving the Audi e-tron, Jaguar I-Pace (which has just been named Europe’s Car of the Year) and the Volvo S60/V60 to fight for the trophy.

The winners will be revealed at the opening of the New York International Auto Show on April 17, 2019.
