A new report out of the United Kingdom suggests that Alfa Romeo is (still) hard at work developing a coupé version of its Giulia, complete with an F1-style energy recovery system expected to boost the V6’s peak output to a whopping 478 kW.

According to Autocar’s sources, the Giulia coupé could be unveiled as early as the end of 2018, perhaps wearing the “Sprint” badge.

The British publication reports that the new two-door will be offered with the choice of two hybrid powertrains: one based on the Veloce sedan’s turbocharged 2,0-litre four-cylinder and the other on the Ferrari-designed twin-turbo 2,9-litre V6 from the Quadrifoglio.

Both, says Autocar, will gain an energy recovery system, with the 2,0-litre unit expected to make 257 kW and the six-cylinder a hefty 478 kW, which would make the latter the most powerful Alfa Romeo ever produced.

The rumoured coupé range will apparently also feature the conventional 147 kW and 206 kW versions of the 2,0-litre mill as well as the 375 kW version of the V6.
