Aston Martin has confirmed it plans to expand its DBX range with new derivatives from 2021.

As reported by Autocar, executive chairman Lawrence Stroll confirmed the plans during the presentation of the Gaydon-based firm’s first-quarter financial report.

“With St Athan [where the company builds the DBX in Wales] re-opened safely last week, I’m extremely pleased that the DBX remains on track for deliveries in the summer and has a strong order book behind it extending into 2021,” Stroll said.

“Based on these successful initial orders for the DBX, we plan to unveil future derivatives starting from 2021,” he added.

In March 2020, Marek Reichman, Aston Martin executive vice-president and chief creative officer, hinted to GoAuto.com.au the DBX range could gain a sportier version as well as a seven-seater variant.

The DBX is powered by a Mercedes-AMG-sourced twin-turbo 4,0-litre V8 shared with the DB11 and Vantage, although here it offers 405 kW and 700 N.m. That’s enough, claims Aston Martin, for a sprint from standstill to 100 km/h in 4,5 seconds and a top speed of 292 km/h.

In the final week of May 2020, Aston Martin announced the appointment of Mercedes-AMG boss Tobias Moers as CEO, replacing Andy Palmer at the helm of the British firm.
