Aston Martin has revealed the new Vanquish Vision concept at the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show, with the Gaydon-based firm billing the newcomer as a “tantalising preview” of its first series production mid-engined supercar.

Set to take on the likes of the recently revealed Ferrari F8 Tributo and the McLaren 720S, the production version will employ Aston Martin’s new V6 engine (which will make its debut in the AM-RB 003 in hybrid turbo form).

Furthermore, the brand confirmed the new model would be underpinned by a bespoke bonded aluminium chassis, developed under the guidance of Aston Martin chief technical officer, Max Szwaj. The automaker promised the new vehicle would undergo a “rigorous development process” as it neared its final production specification.

Aston Martin said the “advanced design study” provided “further evidence” of its intent to compete in “one of the most hotly contested market sectors in the automotive world – one traditionally defined by Italian supercar-makers – with this Gaydon-built offering”.

“Firstly, what a pleasure to revive the Vanquish name. Synonymous with our series production flagships, it felt entirely appropriate to attach it to such a significant car,” said Andy Palmer, Aston Martin Lagonda president and group CEO.

“The Vanquish Vision concept marks another pivotal moment in Aston Martin’s history, and another critical step in delivering the ‘Second Century Plan’. Our first series production rear mid-engined supercar will be a transformational moment for the brand, for it is the car that will propel Aston Martin into a sector of the market traditionally seen as the heartland of luxury sports cars.”

The Vanquish Vision Concept is on display in Geneva alongside the aforementioned AM-RB 003 and the Lagonda All-Terrain Concept.
