While the Audi RS5 Coupé has been in South Africa since November 2017, the RS5 Sportback has yet to feature locally. Until now, that is. Yes, the five-door version of the RS5 is now listed on Audi SA’s website, along with the RS4 Avant (as we recently reported).

The website confirms the RS5 Sportback will be priced from R1 312 000, which makes it some R15 000 more expensive than the coupé.

Officially revealed in March 2018 at the New York International Auto Show, the RS5 Sportback shares its twin-turbo 2,9-litre V6 engine with its three-door sibling, sending 331 kW and 600 N.m to all four corners via an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The Ingolstadt-based firm says the Sportback matches the coupé model’s claimed 3,9-second sprint to three figures and its top speed of 280 km/h. Audi also says the luggage compartment can swallow 480 litres, while folding down the rear seats reveals utility space of 1 300 litres.

In South Africa, the matte aluminium styling package will ship standard, although a black styling package (R9 885) and carbon styling package (R65 470 for the version with add-on parts in matte aluminium and R75 355 for the one with gloss black add-on elements) will be optionally offered.

The RS5 Sportback runs on 20-inch alloys (wrapped in 275/30 R20 rubber) as standard, while specifying the dynamic package (for R97 649) adds dynamic steering and a sports differential. Various other options are offered.
