BMW M boss Markus Flasch has refused to rule out a high-performance SUV bigger than the X5 M and X6 M.

Speaking to CarExpert.com.au, Flasch hinted an even larger model could eventually come out of the M division.

“We constantly monitor and analyse the whole automotive market and the SUV market is obviously one of the fastest growing segments,” he told the Australian publication.

“That was the reason we presented the first generation of X3 M and X4 M and the third generation of X5 M and X6 M in 2019.

“Will there be a bigger M model than X5 M and X6 M? Maybe. Why not? But I don’t have anything to disclose about that right now,” Flasch said.

While the Munich-based firm has seemingly earlier ruled out giving its X7 the full-fat M treatment (the M50i-based Alpina XB7 is the closest thing), BMW has hinted more than once that an X8 could be on the way. And, in April 2020, the company filed an application to trademark the “X8 M” badge in Europe…
