Nissan has unwrapped its new Navara Sentinel concept at the São Paulo International Motor Show, saying the special double-cab bakkie has been designed for rescue missions across all types of terrain.

The Navara (or Frontier, as it is known in some markets, including Brazil) Sentinel pilfers two battery packs from the Leaf electric car to deliver auxiliary power. The cargo bed, meanwhile, has been adjusted to accommodate these battery packs plus a set of drawers to store gloves, flashlights, helmets, ropes, axes, toolboxes and more.

Interestingly, the top part of the cargo bed features a deployable platform from which a drone can take off and land. A roll bar with a strengthening function stretches across the sides of the cargo bed and additionally houses two power outlets.

The concept furthermore employs a snorkel to allow it to navigate deep-water crossings. It runs on 16-inch alloys protected by special covers and wrapped in heavy-duty GT Radial 285/75 R16 Adventuro MT rubber.

And the paint colour? Well, Nissan says the “Thunder Blue” hue was inspired by the Brazilian hyacinth macaw, a parrot native to central and eastern South America. Inside, you’ll find an equally bold “Electric Yellow” dashboard and central console, with the shade repeated on the seat trim and stitching.
