Back in February, Mercedes-Benz announced a special Mercedes-AMG S65 Final Edition model would be revealed at the Geneva International Motor Show, effectively signalling the death of the V12 in its S-Class sedan range. And now the covers have officially come off the limited-edition model.

The Stuttgart-based firm says the S65 Final Edition “marks the pinnacle” of the twin-turbo 6,0-litre V12 engine's “long success story on board the S-Class Saloon”. Just 130 units will be built, all “aimed at collectors of exclusive vehicles and fans of superlative twelve-cylinder engines”. The V12, of course, churns out 463 kW and 1000 N.m.

Of course, as Motor1 earlier pointed out, Daimler has suggested the V12 will live on in its Mercedes-Maybach products, although it’s unclear for exactly how long.

The S65 Final Edition will be offered exclusively in a high-gloss obsidian black finish. It furthermore gains bronze-coloured 20-inch multi-spoke wheels, air inlet grilles in the same matte hue and an AMG logo on the C-pillar. Round back, you’ll find a high-gloss black finish for the tailpipe trim.

Inside, the special model boasts black Nappa leather with copper-coloured stitching (the latter repeated on the floor mats) plus various trim elements in carbon-fibre streaked with fine copper-coloured threads. Each model features a unique numbered badge in the centre console, along with an “AMG Edition” insert on the steering wheel (and a pre-configured copper colour ambient light).

Interestingly, to protect the special-edition model, every unit will be offered with a tailor-made AMG indoor car cover featuring "AMG S65 Final Edition" lettering, as pictured below.
