The new Ferrari 488 Pista Spider has been unveiled at Pebble Beach in California, positioned as the 50th topless model from the Prancing Horse brand.
Drawing its urge from Ferrari’s 3,9-litre twin-turbo V8, the 488 Pista Spider churns out 530 kW and 770 N.m, the same as the Pista coupé revealed in February 2018. The zero to 100 km/h sprint takes a claimed 2,85 seconds (again, the same as the coupé), while the 200 km/h mark is reached in eight seconds. Top speed comes in at 340 km/h.
Ferrari claims a dry weight of 1 380 kg (some 100 kg heavier than the coupé) "with optional lightweight contents", a figure made possible by the “generous use” of carbon-fibre and Alcantara throughout the cabin. Even the carpets have been replaced by patterned aluminium footplates, while the driver’s door handle is now a simple strap.
The Pista Spider runs on new diamond-finish 20-inch alloy wheels with a 10-spoke star-effect interpretation of Ferrari’s traditional mid-rear engine berlinetta-style rims. Also available will be optional one-piece carbon-fibre wheels, which the Maranello-based brand says offer a 20 percent weight reduction over the standard forged items.
