Fiat Chrysler Automobiles boss Sergio Marchionne has again suggested that Ferrari has plans to build an SUV of some sort, but insisted that the end product “has to drive like a Ferrari”.

Speaking to AutoExpress at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the Ferrari CEO said that the planned vehicle – which he earlier described as an “FUV” (Ferrari Utility Vehicle) rather than an SUV – will “look like whatever a Ferrari utility vehicle needs to look like”.

Marchionne went on to admit that “there would be enough people even outside Ferrari who would go for me if I did ‘just a utility vehicle’.”

Lamborghini, of course, has already gone the SUV route, having last year finally revealed the Urus. Rolls-Royce, too, will soon enter the space with the production version of its Project Cullinan.

In October 2017, the 65-year-old said that he was “dead serious” about adding the proposed new model to Ferrari's line-up, after earlier reports suggested the brand that was working on something called project F16X, a high-riding crossover being developed alongside the next-generation GTC4Lusso.
