The new Jaguar F-Pace SVR is due to launch in South Africa in the first quarter of 2019, but CARmag.co.za can bring you local pricing a little early.

So, how much will this new high-performance SUV cost you? Well, slotting in above the F-Pace 35t AWD S (R1 208 559), the SVR model will be priced at R1 453 300, before CO2 emissions tax (a spot of rudimentary maths suggests that the latter will come in at about R16 720).

While local specifications have yet to be revealed, this makes it a little less expensive than the pre-facelift Porsche Macan Turbo Performance (a Jaguar executive earlier suggested that the SVR was essentially built to beat the Macan), which currently retails for R1 540 000.

The F-Pace SVR is also more powerful than the 324 kW/600 N.m Porsche, as the British SUV employs a supercharged 5,0-litre V8 sending 405 kW and 680 N.m to all four corners via an eight-speed automatic transmission. That’s enough grunt, says Jaguar, for a 4,3-second sprint to 100 km/h and a top speed of 283 km/h.

The SVR-badged F-Pace furthermore gains various aerodynamic enhancements, such as larger air intakes up front as well as side fender vents, which the brand says lower pressure in the wheel arches, reduce lift and provide additional cooling, while also optimising high-speed stability.

There are also model-specific wheel arch extensions and lower body mouldings, along with the obligatory vented SVR bonnet. At the rear, you’ll notice the unique spoiler is joined by a new bumper housing the menacing quad-tailpipes of the active (and lightweight) exhaust system. The bumper furthermore incorporates side strakes aiding aerodynamic performance.

Jaguar says the uprated chassis has progressive front and rear springs that are 30 and 10 percent stiffer, respectively. New 21-inch and optional 22-inch lightweight alloy wheels are wider at the rear by 25 mm compared with the front. The brakes, too, are heftier, with 395 mm front and 396 mm rear discs offered as standard. The SVR is also the first F-Pace to features Jaguar’s rear "Electronic Active Differential".

Inside, you’ll be greeted by performance front seats that the Coventry-based automaker says provide added lateral support, as well as an SVR-branded steering wheel with aluminium paddle shifters.
