Hyundai Automotive South Africa will import both the new Atos and the Styx crossover – neither of which has been revealed yet – in 2019, according to a new report.

Speaking to Engineering News, Stanley Anderson, Hyundai Automotive SA’s director of sales and operations, seemingly confirmed that the Atos nameplate would return to local shores.

Codenamed AH2, the new Atos is scheduled to be fully revealed in India late in October. In that market, at least, the small hatchback is set to wear a different badge.

Anderson told Engineering News that Hyundai was aiming to bring in the new Atos during the first quarter of 2019 “for under R150 000”, which would see it to slot in below the Grand i10.

In addition, the report added that the Styx SUV – a nameplate that the Korean automaker trademarked with the European Union Intellectual Property Office back in July 2018 – was scheduled to launch locally by June 2019.

The report pointed out that the new budget crossover was set to be built in India on the current Accent platform, and would be positioned below the facelifted Creta and the upcoming Kona. It could end up drawing inspiration from the HND-14 Carlino concept revealed in India in 2016.
