A high-ranking Hyundai design executive has confirmed the Korean brand’s fresh-faced baby crossover will soon be unveiled with a “very boxy, bold, bull-doggy character”.

Expected to be badged as the Hyundai Styx, the new small crossover will slot in below the Kona (and facelifted Creta). From what we understand, it is very likely to be introduced in South Africa (and imported from India).

SangYup Lee, head of the Hyundai Global Design Centre in Namyang, told MotorTrend the newcomer would be “smaller” and “distinctively different than Kona". Lee added the new crossover featured a "very, very distinctive two-box area”.

“So imagine Kona as a really fast profile, distinctive, iconic character to it, but this one is almost very boxy, bold, bull-doggy character," he told the US-based publication.

Indeed, the Styx is likely to draw some inspiration from Hyundai’s Carlino concept of 2016. Interestingly, Lee confirmed it would not run on the same platform as the Kona.

Expect to see the new model debut at the upcoming New York International Auto Show in April.
