The 2020 BrandZ Top 100 Most Valuable Global Brands report has been released, giving us a look at the 10 most valuable automotive companies in the world.

Interestingly, the report claims the world’s most valuable brands saw their total brand value increase by 5,9 percent despite the far-reaching impacts of COVID-19 (that said, the automotive sector suffered a 7,0 percent drop). Indeed, the total brand value of the top 100 global brands hit $5-trillion, according to the study (which is in its 15th year).

So, what exactly happened in the automotive sector? Well, Toyota (ranked 48th overall) again topped the table, despite losing three percent of its brand value year-on-year. Mercedes-Benz (56th overall) placed second, just ahead of rival BMW (61st overall).

Interestingly, Tesla rocketed up to fourth place, proving to be the only firm in the automotive top ten to increase its value (some 22 percent) year-on-year. Ford placed fifth, ahead of Honda, Nissan, Audi, Volkswagen and Porsche.

For the record, the top ten thus contains five German brands, three Japanese brands and two American brands.

Overall, Amazon was again ranked as the world’s most valuable brand, ahead of Apple and Microsoft (with Google falling to fourth).
