Alfa Romeo’s product marketing boss has confirmed the Italian brand plans to end production of its Giulietta hatchback towards the end of 2020.

Speaking to Autocar, Fabio Migliavacca said time was running out for the 10-year-old hatch, which had replaced the 147 way back in 2010.

“Giulietta is expected to finish its life at the end of this year [2020]. The trend is to have SUVs in the C-segment, so the Tonale SUV will be the replacement for Giulietta,” he confirmed.

Migliavacca suggested the Tonale – which is set to slot in below the Stelvio – would match the Giulietta in terms of dynamics.

“We don’t expect driving dynamics to be a weak point for the Tonale,” he told the British publication.

In South Africa, the slow-selling Giulietta range currently comprises four variants, including the flagship 170 kW Veloce model.
