The head of Daimler has confirmed Mercedes-Benz plans to offer the G-Class in electric guise “in a few years”.
Speaking to CarsGuide, Ola Källenius, who is both Daimler boss and head of Mercedes-Benz Cars, confirmed plans to go the electric route with the iconic Geländewagen, a vehicle he described as being like “its own company”.
“People love this car. We had record-breaking sales of the new G last year as we had rolled out the full production of the completed updated G,” Källenius told the Australian publication.
“Yes, the G is going to go electric. We’ve kicked off the concept work on this, so in a few years you will be able to go electric with the G as well. Modern luxury is going to be sustainable modern luxury,” he added.
