Opel South Africa has laid bare its plans for 2020, confirming approximate timing of four new arrivals.

While the first quarter of the year looks to be fairly quiet for the local arm of the Rüsselsheim-based firm, the subtly refreshed Astra is scheduled to touch down in the second quarter. It’s not yet clear whether this updated hatchback will be offered locally with the latest PSA Group engines, as it is in Europe.

The new, sixth-generation Corsa, meanwhile, is expected to arrive in either the third or fourth quarter of 2020. While the make-up of local range is still a mystery, it’s worth noting the small hatchback is offered with a 55 kW naturally aspirated 1,2-litre petrol engine and a turbocharged 1,2-litre three-cylinder unit is offered in two states of tune (74 kW and 96 kW) in Europe. There are also diesel and all-electric variants in that part of the world but we suspect they won't form part of the local launch plans.

And the Zafira Life? Well, the nine-seater is also pencilled in for a third-quarter launch, with Opel SA having already confirmed power will come from a 2,0-litre turbodiesel engine. Overseas, the multi-purpose vehicle is offered in three lengths, although it remains to be seen which variants are destined for SA.

Opel furthermore plans to expand its presence in the light commercial vehicle segment in 2020, with the Vivaro Cargo Panel Van likely to join the local range in the third quarter.
