Peugeot South Africa has trimmed its local passenger vehicle line-up, removing eight derivatives from its official pricelist.

The 308 hatchback range – which had comprised just two variants at the end of 2019 – has now been officially scrapped (the company announced its intention to do so in September last year).

Meanwhile, the 3008 line-up has been cut from six derivatives to three. Only a trio of turbocharged 1,6-litre petrol derivatives (each featuring a six-speed automatic transmission) remains, with the base 1,2-litre petrol model and a pair of 2,0-litre turbodiesel variants no longer listed on its pricing bulletin.

The local arm of the French firm has taken a similar approach with the outgoing 2008, removing a pair of 1,6-litre oil-burning models as well as a mid-spec manual variant to leave three 1,2-litre options (a manual and two self-shifters).

It’s worth noting the new 2008 is due in South Africa in either the second or third quarter of 2020, with the new 208 and soon-to-be-facelifted 3008 pencilled in for the final quarter.

The single 108 variant, five-strong 208 range and four-strong 5008 line-up are unchanged, although prices have been increased for 2020. As before, all models in Peugeot’s local stable benefit from a five-year/100 000 km service plan.
