While Naamsa no longer releases individual model sales figures to the public, we have it on good authority the Isuzu D-Max outsold the Ford Ranger in South Africa in August 2020.

According to our information, Toyota’s Hilux was the top-selling bakkie locally during the month (as is so often the case), with 3 613 units registered. While the Ranger often places second, that wasn’t what happened in August.

Instead, the D-Max ended the month on 1 670 registrations, some 13 units ahead of the Blue Oval bakkie’s effort of 1 657. While a new-generation D-Max has already launched in countries such as Thailand and Australia, Isuzu Motors South Africa says local fans will have to wait until the second half of 2021 to purchase the new-generation, locally built version.

Next in line were Nissan’s NP200 and NP300, totalling 863 and 632 units, respectively. Sixth place went to the Mahindra Pik Up (369), ahead of the GWM Steed (161), Volkswagen Amarok (134), Toyota Land Cruiser Pick-Up (125) and Fiat Fullback (39).

That means there was no space in the top ten for the likes of the Mahindra Bolero (31), Mitsubishi Triton (26), Mazda BT-50 (15) and Nissan Navara (13).
