Lexus in Europe has announced 10-year/1 000 000 km battery warranty for its new, fully electric UX300e.

Toyota’s luxury arm says the 10-year/1 000 000 km warranty covers all functional defects of the main battery as well as capacity degradation below 70 percent, provided the owner “respects the regular health checks foreseen in the maintenance programme”.

“Our acknowledged leadership in electrification, coupled with this 10-year warranty commitment, brings a new level of reassurance to customers opting for a BEV in this segment,” said Pascal Ruch, head of Lexus Europe.

As a reminder, the UX 300e is powered by a 54,3 kWh, 288-cell lithium-ion battery pack allowing a claimed NEDC range of 400 km (which translates to a little more than 300 km on the WLTP cycle).

The UX 300e features a 150 kW electric motor driving the front wheels. This is enough, says the company, for a 7,5-second sprint to 100 km/h and a top speed of 160 km/h.

Lexus says sensors monitor the voltage of each battery cell and block, as well as the battery cell temperature. The firm also developed a battery cell air-cooling system for the UX300e it claims is “safer and lighter than water-cooled systems”.
