Mazda Southern Africa has made a couple of changes to its CX-5 range, adding a new front-wheel-drive derivative and upgrading the lone 2,5-litre model to all-wheel drive.

The local line-up now comprises eight derivatives – up from the seven at launch in May 2017 – with the new front-wheel-drive, 2,0-litre Individual automatic coming in at R480 700, putting it somewhere near the middle of the range. The naturally aspirated 2,0-litre petrol engine still makes 121 kW and 210 N.m.

Standard features on this new variant include eight-way power-adjustable front seats, a 10-speaker Bose sound system, parking sensors (front and rear), a head-up display (projecting information onto the windscreen), satellite navigation and a powered tailgate.

The 2,5-litre model (also in Individual spec), meanwhile, now features all-wheel drive as standard, and furthermore gains a tilt-and-slide powered sunroof. However, the upgrade sees the price of this model increase from R500 600 to R543 800.

These two models, as well as both diesel derivatives, feature an array of safety systems as standard, including lane departure warning, smart city brake support, lane keep assist, driver attention alert, adaptive LED headlamps and blind spot monitoring.

All models come with a three-year/unlimited kilometre warranty and a three-year/unlimited kilometre service plan.
