Mercedes-Benz has announced that production of the new Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupé has officially commenced at its Sindelfingen plant.

Revealed at the Geneva International Motor Show back in March 2018, the vehicle is the third sports car (after the SLS AMG and the AMG GT) developed in-house by Mercedes-AMG. Offered in GT53, GT63 and GT63 S guises, the new range is scheduled to launch in South Africa in the first quarter of 2019.

"The production of the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupé at the Mercedes-Benz plant Sindelfingen corroborates the importance and the flexibility of the location,” said plant manager, Michael Bauer.

“Our team is highly motivated and excited to continue writing the GT success story with their own know-how and experience. At the same time, the production start-up is an important component in the transformation plan agreed with the works council in 2014", he added.

The Sindelfingen factory is the lead plant for the production of the S- and E-Class series, and also builds the CLS, Mercedes-Maybach and Mercedes-AMG GT families. In addition, upcoming electric vehicles under the EQ brand will be produced at this site.
