Mercedes-Benz South Africa has quietly discontinued as many as six diesel models (all in its compact series), along with a trio of petrol-powered E-Class derivatives.

The oil-burners that have been axed locally include two B-Class variants: the B200d and B220d. Of course, the third-generation version of the Stuttgart-based brand’s MPV has since been revealed at the Paris Motor Show, and is expected to arrive in South Africa in the second quarter of 2019.

The CLA200d and CLA220d have likewise been removed from Benz’s local website, along with the GLA200d and GLA220d 4Matic. All three ranges thus now comprise purely of petrol-powered models.

All 200d models mentioned above made use of a 2,1-litre turbodiesel unit churning out 100 kW and 300 N.m. The 220d derivatives employed a powerplant of the same capacity, but with higher peak outputs of 130 kW and 350 N.m.

Meanwhile, the E400 versions of both the E-Class sedan and coupé have also been discontinued in South Africa (these models have been replaced in some overseas markets by the E450, although it's not yet clear whether this will happen in South Africa), as has the Mercedes-AMG E43 sedan. The latter, of course, will soon be replaced by the Mercedes-AMG E53.
