If you've ever found yourself complaining that the Mercedes-Benz X-Class is not extreme enough in the looks department (compared with the concept, for instance), then Poland-based firm Carlex Design believes it has the answer for you ... whether you want to play on- or off-road.

For those with a tendency to head off the beaten track, there’s the fittingly named X-Class Off-Road, which boasts a set of all-terrain tyres and hiked suspension. To deal with the extra width of the chunky tyres, the bakkie also gains widened plastic arches.

To tackle the rougher conditions, Carlex has also given the X-Class a set of LED roof lights, a so-called bonnet bra, a custom sports bars and even a front winch. Inside, the Off-Road is upholstered with swatches of posh leather and gains a smattering of carbon-fibre trim.

The X-Class Urban, meanwhile, takes a different approach. Although it features the same arches, sports bar and bonnet bra as the Off-Road derivative, the Urban possesses a lower suspension and sportier wheels and tyres.

Take a closer look at the alloys and you may also notice a set of AMG carbon-ceramic brakes, an odd inclusion considering the power output of this bakkie (presumably the X250d) remains the same. Inside the Urban, the sporty theme continues thanks to an eye-catching red leather upholstery and a pair of Recaro Sportster seats.

Carlex says the Off-Road and the Urban will be limited to 999 units each.
