Mitsubishi Motors South Africa has confirmed that the new Eclipse Cross will be headed to our shores in 2018.

Unveiled earlier this year at Geneva, the new model will slot in between the ASX and the Outlander.

Although local specifications have yet to be revealed, the Eclipse Cross will be offered in Europe with the choice of two powertrains.

The first is a new 1,5-litre turbocharged petrol engine mated to a continuously variable transmission (with eight virtual cogs), while the second is the familiar 2,2-litre turbodiesel unit fitted with a new eight-speed automatic transmission.

In addition to the Eclipse Cross, Mitsubishi Motors SA says it plans to launch "a host of new and improved models" in the coming months, with the highlight being the new Pajero Sport.
