Mitsubishi Motors South Africa has handed its Pajero Sport additional safety equipment just a year after the SUV hit local shores.

The local arm of the Japanese automaker has given its Pajero Sport – which competes with the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Everest and Isuzu MU-X – Isofix child seat anchors (a specification anomaly noted by CAR magazine in our test of the 4×2 derivative).

In addition, the automaker has added an airbag (for the driver’s knees), taking the tally to seven.

“We continuously conduct market research to determine how the Mitsubishi Motors designers and engineers could improve the driving experience of our range of vehicles, hence strengthening our already loyal customer base,” said Nic Campbell, general manager at Mitsubishi Motors South Africa.

As before, the local range comprises two derivatives – one rear-driven (R569 995) and the other 4x4 (R619 995) – both powered by a 2,4-litre turbodiesel worth 133 kW and 430 N.m, mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The Pajero Sport is covered by Mitsubishi’s three-year/100 000 km warranty and five-year/90 000 km service plan (with intervals of 10 000 km).
