A high-raking Jaguar Land Rover executive has confirmed the upcoming Defender will be offered in “multiple body styles”, saying the range will “cater to many different people”.

Speaking to motoring.com.au, Jaguar Land Rover Australia boss Mark Cameron said the new Defender “will be at the top as one of our highest volume cars”.

“When you see our announcements around this car, you will see it will be a very wide, stretched range. We will compete with some of the volume manufacturers but we will also go up to very powerful, very luxurious versions of the Defender,” Cameron told the Australian publication.

“We will have a range that will span to cater to many different people, just like our competitors’ products. Toyota’s Land Cruiser is not dissimilar,” he added, making reference to the Japanese firm’s Land Cruiser 76, 79, 200 and Prado series.

Of course, the original Defender went out of production early in 2016, while the new-generation model is set to be revealed later in 2019.

“The new Defender’s going to be the most capable car we’ve ever built,” Cameron said, promising it would be “thoroughly modern”.
