Local pricing for the new Mercedes-AMG E53 4Matic+ sedan has surfaced online ahead of its launch in South Africa, with the new electrified performance sedan slotting in below the full-fat E63 S.

Effectively replacing the E43, the new model will be priced from R1 251 620, excluding CO2 tax (so you’re looking at a figure of around R1 261 740, according to our maths).

As a reminder, the E53 employs a 3,0-litre, inline six-cylinder engine featuring twin-turbocharging and an electric auxiliary compressor. The petrol engine churns out 320 kW and 520 N.m, with the so-called “EQ Boost” starter generator briefly providing an additional 16 kW and 250 N.m.

The Affalterbach-based performance division’s Speedshift TCT 9G transmission ships standard, directing oomph to all four corners via the brand's 4Matic+ variable all-wheel-drive system. The result is a dash from standstill to 100 km/h in a claimed 4,5 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h.

Specifying the AMG Driver’s Package (for some R30 000) will raise that figure to 270 km/h, and is just one of numerous options offered for the E53.

Other highlights here include Multibeam LED headlamps (R29 355), a remote parking package (R34 601), a panoramic sliding sunroof (R21 588), AMG performance seats (R42 570), AMG performance exhaust (R21 689), a Burmester high-end surround sound system (R108 746) and the widescreen cockpit (R16 746).

Interestingly, only the E53 sedan is listed on Mercedes-Benz’s local website, with the coupé and convertible models bearing the same badge nowhere to be found (despite having hit the global stage earlier than the sedan).
