Audi has quietly revealed a new TDI version of its S4 Sedan, although the diesel-powered performance saloon is not coming to South Africa.

Following a similar move first with the new S6 Sedan and S7 Sportback, and then with the S5 Coupé and S5 Sportback (not to mention the SQ5 TDI), the Ingolstadt-based firm has handed its S4 Sedan and S4 Avant a 3,0-litre V6 turbodiesel heart in Europe.

In the S4, this oil-burning six-cylinder offers 255 kW and 700 N.m, with an electric-powered compressor providing “strong off-the-line performance” and a mild-hybrid system enhancing efficiency. Top speed comes in at 250 km/h, while the obligatory dash to three figures takes a claimed 4,8 seconds.

Audi South Africa, meanwhile, tells CARmag.co.za it will “continue with the TFSI version of the Audi S4 going forward”. As a reminder, this petrol-powered model employs a single-turbo V6 sending 260 kW and 500 N.m to all four corners, facilitating a claimed zero to 100 km/h time of 4,7 seconds.

Disappointed? Well, here's a look at what Audi WILL be bringing to SA shores over the remainder of 2019...
