BMW has released fresh images of its upcoming M4, showing a camouflaged version of the new coupé alongside a likewise disguised M4 GT3 racing prototype.

The Munich-based firm confirmed the new M4 will be offered in two forms: a 353 kW variant featuring a six-speed manual transmission and a 375 kW Competition derivative employing an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission. Those power figures will, of course, be drawn from a “newly developed” twin-turbo 3,0-litre straight six-cylinder engine.

Expect a full reveal of the G82-generation M4 (alongside the G80-generation M3) in September 2020.

“The BMW M4 Coupé and its motorsport counterpart BMW M4 GT3 are the icons of the BMW M GmbH and prime examples of the technology transfer from motorsport to series production – and back again,” said Markus Flasch, CEO of BMW M.

“From the outset, both vehicles were developed parallel to each other, so they both have the same genes,” he added.

From 2022 and following “selected racing events” in 2021, the new M4 GT3 will replace the M6 GT3 as the top-of-the-range model in BMW’s customer sport offering.
