BMW has whipped the covers off its new 8 Series Edition Golden Thunder package, which can be applied to all three body variants in the range.

The kit – which will be available for the coupé, convertible and gran coupé – effectively comprises gold-effect accents and a smattering of BMW Individual equipment.

The Munich-based firm says the special model has the “character of a custom-built vehicle”, with production scheduled to kick off at Plant Dingolfing in September 2020.

So, what exactly sets the Edition Golden Thunder models apart? Well, the M sports package is included as standard, along with a body finish in Sapphire Black metallic or Frozen Black metallic.

The BMW Individual High Gloss Shadow Line package (with “extended features” and black brake callipers for the M sports brake system) is also included, with gold-effect accent lines running from the front apron to the side skirts and into the rear apron. Other features finished in the gold hue are the side-mirror caps, the M rear spoiler (on the coupé, anyway) and the 20-inch M light alloy wheels.

Inside, the Bavarian firm has added its extended BMW Individual Merino leather trim in black, complete with the “Edition Golden Thunder” inscription embroidered on the front headrests. The coupé and gran coupé furthermore gain BMW Individual Alcantara Anthracite roof liner.

There’s also some aluminium mesh effect gold trim inside, along with an edition emblem on the centre console. In addition, selected controls gain BMW’s familiar glass application while a Bowers & Wilkins diamond surround sound system is fitted as standard.

BMW says the package will be available in conjunction with its 840i, 840d xDrive and M850i xDrive powertrains.
