Hyundai has released the first images of its new Tucson, giving us a great look at the fresh-faced SUV’s bold exterior styling and “dual cockpit layout”.

The front end is positively dominated by the latest evolution of the Korean firm’s headlamp design, which it calls “Parametric Hidden Lights”. The “signature” daytime running lights are integrated into the “jewel-like grille”, and are only revealed when switched on by the driver.

Hyundai says the Tucson will be the second model in its range to adopt the fresh design identity, which was introduced on the new Elantra. The company furthermore confirms this new-generation model will be “bigger and wider” than its predecessor, despite exhibiting a “slinky coupé-like character”.

And inside? Well, Hyundai has so far released only a sketch (rather than a photograph) of the cabin, but we do get a good look at the new dual cockpit layout. The firm says the “evolution” of the Tucson’s interior layout led to the adoption of a lower instrument display and the removal of the gauge cluster housing for a “decluttered” appearance.

“The mission of ‘Sensuous Sportiness’ is to elevate the emotional qualities of automotive design. We want our customers to feel moved. With the all-new Tucson, we are introducing its ultimate evolution and a definitive statement about Hyundai’s unstoppable forward momentum,” said SangYup Lee, senior vice-president and head of Hyundai Global Design Centre.

“Tucson’s advanced, experimental design is true to its pioneering spirit and raises the game in the industry’s most competitive segment.”

The new Tucson is set to be fully revealed on 15 September 2020.
