The folks over at Brabus sure have been busy, revealing not only a pair of modified Mercedes-Benz GLEs but now a “refined” version of the Stuttgart automaker’s GLS400d.

As standard, the GLS400d’s 3,0-litre six-cylinder engine produces 243 kW and 700 N.m of torque, the latter sent to all four wheels from a low 1 200 r/min. Now equipped with Brabus’ PowerXtra D40 performance kit, the turbocharged inline-six churns out 272 kW and 750 N.m. According to the German tuner, there’s a “perfect interaction” between the GLS’s nine-speed automatic transmission and the uprated engine. The tuned GLS400d will dash to 100 km/h from standstill in a claimed time of “just” 6,0 seconds (three-tenths of a second quicker than the standard time) and top out at 243 km/h (up from 238 km/h).

Exterior updates remain subtle, with the most notable addition being the German tuner’s moniker replacing the Three-pointed Star on the front grille, while a roof-mounted spoiler, finished in a black hue, has been fitted to the rear. Completing the package, 24-inch alloy wheels are found at each corner.

Climb inside and “Brabus” is illuminated in the stainless-steel door sills. The cabin is trimmed in leather and Alcantara, while items such as the door locking pins and pedals are finished in aluminium.

Performance upgrades for the petrol-powered GLS580 4Matic are also currently under development, Brabus says. This model employs a 4,0-litre twin-turbo V8, coupled with a 48 V mild-hybrid setup, with the electrified powerplant producing 376 kW and 700 N.m as standard.
