Ford has officially lifted the wraps off the Mustang Mach-E, revealing its latest crossover at the 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show in standard and performance-orientated GT guise. This marks the first expansion of the Pony car line-up in 55 years.

As standard, the Mustang Mach-E employs a 75,7 kWh lithium-ion battery, while a model sporting a 98,8 kWh item is also offered. In rear-wheel-drive configuration (all-wheel drive is available throughout the range), Ford claims the more powerful of the two derivatives can travel “more than” 595 km on a single charge. Mated with all-wheel-drive, the larger battery pack produces 248 kW and 565 N.m of torque. Mimicking their internal combustion stablemates, Mustang Mach-E variants are recognisable via the famous moniker fitted at the rear. Standard models feature the iconic Mustang badge, while the more-powerful version don the GT item.

According to Ford, the Mustang Mach-E GT will supply drivers with the kind of thrills for which the Mustang is famous. Boasting 342 kW and 830 N.m, the automaker says the top-of-the-range crossover will complete the 0-100 km/h dash in “less than” five seconds.

Other equipment includes a MagneRide adaptive suspension system and Brembo performance brakes.

The interior features Ford’s updated SYNC infotainment sytem operated via a 15,5-inch touchscreen display. The front boot compartment swallows 100 litres, while the rear is good for 402 litres. Fold the rear bench flat and it liberates 1 420 litre of packing space.

According to Stuart Rowley, president of the European arm of Ford, the electrified Mustang is “one of the most exciting vehicles” ever introduced by the Blue Oval brand.
