Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa has quietly expanded its Everest range from six to seven variants, adding a 4x4 version of the 2,0 SiT XLT derivative.

The SA-built newcomer is priced at R659 400, which makes it some R34 800 less expensive than the 3,2 TDCi XLT 6AT 4x4 model (and R63 200 cheaper than the 2,0 BiT XLT 10AT 4x4).

Like its R619 000 rear-driven 2,0 SiT XLT sibling, the new variant employs a single-turbo oil-burner worth 132 kW and 420 N.m, and mated to a ten-speed automatic transmission. Here, however, drive is directed to all four corners.

The rest of the range is unchanged (apart from receiving a bump in pricing), with the 118 kW/385 N.m 2,2-litre turbodiesel engine remaining the sole entry-level XLS variant, the 147 kW/470 N.m 3,2-litre five-cylinder TDCi mill still offered in mid-spec guise and the 157 kW/500 N.m 2,0-litre bi-turbo diesel engine available in three flavours.
