Great Wall Motors has released official teaser sketches of its upcoming full-size bakkie, which has seemingly been conceived to tackle the Ford F-150.

The newcomer will slot in above the SA-bound GWM Cannon (which is also known in some parts as the P Series, with the "Poer" nameplate having been trademarked for some regions, too).

The Chinese firm confirmed its plans at the 2020 Chengdu Motor Show, releasing three images of the as-yet-unnamed pickup. It is expected to launch in 2021.

While there’s very little official information out there, chinapev.com reports the new bakkie will ride on the same “Tank” platform as the aforementioned Cannon. However, it will be far larger, measuring close to six metres nose to tail.

The publication furthermore claims the four-wheel-drive F-150-fighting bakkie will be offered with an air suspension system that allows ride-height adjustment of up to 120 mm, helping to afford it a 965 mm wading depth.

So, what will power GWM’s biggest bakkie? Well, urge will reportedly come from a new turbocharged 3,0-litre V6 petrol engine, complete with a mild-hybrid system, nine-speed automatic transmission and a central differential lock. Expect outputs of around 260 kW and 500 N.m.
