As the current F20-generation BMW 1 Series approaches the end of its lifecycle, the German firm has given us our best look yet at its replacement. The teaser image you see here shows the new 1 Series from the front three-quarter angle, seemingly with a few design cues from the X2.

Based on the bumper and grille designs, we're assuming the model teased here is the M135i flagship, which BMW has already confirmed will be offered with a 225 kW 2,0-litre four-cylinder engine (and all-wheel drive) to square off against the Mercedes-AMG A35 and Audi S3 Sportback.

In addition to this, BMW’s official Twitter account has shared images of factory workers removing camouflage from an example of the new 1 Series. Here you can see the head- and taillamp design, single exhaust outlet and part of the steering wheel, as well as the fully digital dash.
